Toilet

How often should you clean the toilet?

In a home with one or two people, every 2 to 3 days is enough for the bowl, the seat and the rim. If more people live there, or guests come often, do it every other day or every day. Once a week is too little for a toilet used daily: the seat and the rim need attention sooner than the rest of the bathroom.

The floor around the bowl and the brush holder belong with it. Wiping only the bowl leaves the corners, and that is where the smell lingers.

Guide per part

Part Ordinary home Shared home
Bowl, seat and rim Every 2–3 days Daily or every other day
Floor around the bowl Once a week Twice a week
Brush and holder Once a week Once a week
Tiles, switch, door handle Every 2–4 weeks Every 1–2 weeks

In which order

  1. Set the brush aside and rinse the holder.
  2. Wipe the seat and the outside with a clean cloth.
  3. Then the bowl and the rim, from top to bottom.
  4. Last, the floor around the bowl.

Use a different cloth for the seat than for the bowl. That way you do not wipe from the rim back to where you sit.

Whose turn it is

In a student house or shared home, “someone does the toilet” is too vague. Put the toilet on the cleaning rota for housemates, or let the order follow whatever needs attention most. A full week of guests can undo a fixed schedule in a single day.

Tidyo keeps track, per item, of when it was last done. The toilet rises on its own if it is left longer than the shower or the countertop.
